ZHAO MEI (1954— ). Fiction and prose writer. Born in Tianjin, Zhao Mei received her bachelor' s degree from the Chinese Department of Nankai University. Since 1986 when her first story appeared, she has published more than four collections of short stories and more than a dozen novels as well. She won the Lu Xun Literature Award. She has been well known for receiving influence from Virginia Woolf and for promoting feminism in her works. She has created a distinguishing style of her own with graceful language and sharp sensitivity to the reality. She is right now the president of Tianjing Writers’s Assoication.
