Mary Morrissy

Mary Morrissy is a Dublin born writer currently living in Cork. She is the author of a collection of stories, A Lazy Eye.  A second collection, Prosperity Drive, is forthcoming from Jonathan Cape in February 2016.  She is also the author of three novels, Mother of Pearl, The Pretender and The Rising of Bella Casey.  Mother of Pearl, her first novel, was shortlisted for the Whitbread Award (now Costa) and The Pretender and The Rising of Bella Casey have both been nominated for the Dublin Impac International Literary Award. Her short fiction has been anthologised widely and won her a Hennessy Award in 1984.  In 1995 she was awarded the prestigious US Lannan Award which honours writers whose work “is of exceptional quality”.  She has taught creative writing in the US and Ireland since 2000 and was appointed Lecturer in Creative Writing at UCC in 2015.  She is a member of Aosdána.
